Romeo And Juliet - By Debbie Campbell
Product Description
This musical by Debbie Campbell is based on Romeo and Juliet and is a wonderful way of introducing young people to the works of Shakespeare. The music is dramatic and varied, with fighting songs, dances and romantic solos, in both traditional and modern styles. There is plenty of scope for solo, group, and chorus parts. Two onstage choirs represent the opposing Montague and Capulet families.
Romeo and Juliet meet and fall in love despite an ancient grudge between their families, the Montagues and Capulets. Assisted by Juliet’s good-natured nurse and Friar Lawrence, they marry in secret but then everything goes terribly wrong and ultimately everyone pays a heavy price for continuing this destructive vendetta. Two different kinds of Script, based on Shakespeare’s play and the same rich variety of Songs and Dances, are available: the Original Script or the Shorter Rhyming Script, useful especially as an introduction for young performers and students learning English as a foreign language.
Suitable for Key Stages 2 to 3 (ages 7 to 14). Duration about one hour for the Original Script, a little less for the Shorter Rhyming Script. Cross Curricular Aspects include language and literature, history, geography, citizenship, music, dance, drama, art and design. To suit the number of performers available, the cast size is flexible with 25 to 45 evenly distributed speaking/singing parts and choruses.
